Nietzsche on Genius

Human All Too Human 162

Because we never suppose ourselves as capable of producing great works we convince ourselves that the ability to do so is extraordinary or an accident. Not so if we consider people who are single minded and throw everything into one direction and therefore build layer upon layer which in the end looks very complex, but isn't a miracle. Also, where there is no desire to feel envious we are more inclined to speak of genius. To call someone divine means- `here there is no need for us to compete.'
